9. Table for Two
Kelle Contine Interior Design, chose an edgy, slim-line metal desk is wide enough for these family members to share. Running perpendicular under one side of the desk is a chunkier wooden cabinet that offers storage space for books and papers.
8. Sew Nifty
Penberthy Custom Builders turned a basic closet into a Swiss Army knife-like built-in with a nifty desk that pulls out to an L shape to expand the work surface and footprint. There’s a sewing machine pictured, but one could also imagine a laptop and printer setup for a compact work-from-home office. And at the end of the day, the desk tucks away and doors close to hide any mess.
7. View From the Top
In a family’s small condominium, Betty Wasserman Art & Interiors outfitted one of the children’s bedrooms with a custom Murphy bed. When it’s folded up, as pictured here, there’s plenty of room for the child to sit at his desk while gazing out over the city.
6. Creative Energy
Soul Interiors Design created this work and craft space in a 1908 carriage house for a busy couple. Thibaut’s floral Dynasty collection wallpaper adds bold color and pattern. Built-in desks, cabinets and tall storage to improve organization. And plants, LED lighting and a music system add to the mood-boosting vibe.
5. Corner Office
In her home, Jessica Nelson of Etch Design Group created this charming workspace with a corner desk, open wood shelving and a fun green botanical wallpaper. Statement sconces and a woven-back desk chair are high on both function and style.
4. Simply Natural
Duck Green paint from Farrow & Ball, a mix of woods and an earthy woven chair seat and rug bring the outdoors into this small office in a weekend home. Designed by Carlo Architecture & Interior Design, the room feels especially airy thanks to its glass door, slim-profile furnishings and light-colored floor.
3. Work-Life Balance
Drawing from Eastern European modernism and a Japanese wabi-sabi aesthetic, John Lum Architecture gave a midcentury home a glamorous makeover that included this upstairs study. The desk appears to be cantilevered thanks to a barely there hairpin leg, and its open compartments echo the rectangular forms in the bookshelf.
2. Floral Notes
Robin Bryant of Factor Design Build created this home office for a couple. The room, which sits behind the primary bedroom and is accessed via two doors that flank the bed, has large windows covered with light-filtering drapery, floral wallpaper and antiqued finishes, all of which lend the private room a soft and pretty look.
1. Book Nook
In a petite apartment, Stéphanie Michel-Girard of Wom Design carved out this little niche and gave it big personality by rounding its corners and painting it bold olive and bright blue. Très chic!
Whether you’re teleworking, writing the Great American Novel or just paying the bills, it’s helpful to have a designated office space in your house. (cited)
10. Study/Break
Hindley & Co Architecture collaborated with this homeowner, who’s an architectural colleague-turned-artist, on a renovation that included this combination work-daydream space. A bank of discreet handleless cabinets above the colorful niches makes the most of the high ceilings.
